Quill feather: commonly used for writing before the invention of the modern pen and are still used by some calligraphers and artists today.
New Life® Barugo requested a refresh of an existing design that has been causing difficulties to members and the church’s usual collection process. On top of a seemingly distant look from their current brand image, the original design is troubled with constricted writing spaces, non-existent digital fallback, post-collection inefficiency, and lack of reusability.
They also wanted to move from “Tithes & Offering” into the simpler gesture of “giving” with the intent to alleviate pressure away from people without losing the essence of why it’s important, and why they do the practice. “Give” is the word they are set to communicate, which paved the way for its use as the key visual to serve as a nod to their minimal and typographical approach today.
As observed, the original stripe-like motif was essentially preserved, as it has worked as an iconic illustration for them for a considerable time. It was elegantly redrawn by skewing the logotype itself to imitate the streaks and, simultaneously, accentuate the sense of “action,” effectively communicating their intended messaging—the act of giving. As to visually represent them best and their current typographical language, a heavily condensed serif was used for the lock up.
The integration of a QR code also solved the issue of online transactions and created a convenient portal for those who wanted to extend their hands—hassle-free. The “Prayer & Thanksgiving Testimonials” section can now be cut or torn and be independently taken by the prayer groups without taking the whole envelope itself, which was an efficient fix for their post-collection processes.
The information fill-up area was moved from the back to its own separate sheet and is now housed inside the envelope, giving a liberal amount of space for people to write their information, thoughts, and prayers.
With the challenge of them being in a remote area, this sectional separation enables the printing of quality envelopes with indefinite reuse—dealing with their problematic local printers only once now, as requested. Information sheets can be easily printed from the church’s own low-cost equipment and also gives them the flexibility of quickly changing details without needing a different envelope, whenever the need arises, which is usual to them.
Following the institution of the best solutions for the project, New Life has accomplished the move to a modern stationery; with sincerity, simplicity, and style at its core, it was a successful addressal of every single pain point.
